This unique natural park is the habitat and breeding ground of the Panaxia quadripunctaria butterfly which emerge seasonally from its chrysalis every June about the middle of the month.
Located 25 km from Rhodes, near the village of Kalamonas, this park has many specially designed hiking trails with bridges. Rare for Rhodes, there is a lot of water, including ponds with water lilies, and a small waterfall. In addition. The small river called Pelecanos flows through the Valley.
At the entrance to the Valley there is the Rhodes Museum of Natural History , which has exhibits of local species of flora and fauna. The museum also has a butterfly incubator, library, and modern botanical laboratory.
Above the valley, there is a stone staircase leading to the monastery of the Holy Virgin Kalopetra built by Demetrius Ypsilanti in 1782, who had been exiled to Rhodes for fighting against the Turks.
