Mitsis Alila is an all-inclusive 5-star resort near Faliraki, on the west coast of Rhodes, about 8km south of Rhodes Town. It’s one of a group 11 Mitsis-branded family-friendly luxury resorts scattered about the islands in the Aegean Sea.
It is one of a group of hotels founded by Konstantinos Mitsis, who had a unique vision as to what an all-inclusive hotel should be. Top priorities were a high level of service, first-rate accommodations, and a rich and varied food and beverage menu. Mitsis Hotels is Greece’s largest privately-owned hotel chain, and has expanded to 20 venues of four to five stars in Athens, Crete, Kamena Vourla, Kos and Rhodes.
Mitsis Alila has a first-class all-inclusive resort experience for the whole family on one of the most interesting and popular Aegean islands, Rhodes. The resort is a member of Mitsis’ Premium Collection. It has a total of 314 rooms, including 25 Suites, 22 Family Rooms with private pools, 22 Mountain View rooms, 102 Superior Twin Rooms with Sea View, and 143 Family Rooms with Side or Sea View.
The resort includes full-featured spa, entertainment options, a seawater outdoor pool with water slides, a gym, and sports options such as tennis, beach volley, various water sports, and a games room. There are several bars and restaurants to choose from as well.
The resort’s main building is of the monumental architectural style, with very high well-lighted open spaces in the lobby and reception area, lots of white polished marble reflecting the abundant light coming in the high windows, white and off-white decor and furnishings, and massive, square, load-bearing support columns adding to the monumental feel, with the main restaurant just off to the right of the lobby area.
Guests use adjectives such as “amazing,” “best ever,” “most relaxing holiday,” “excellent,” and “great” when describing their experience at Mitsis Alila. They particularly loved the spa’s massages, the variety and flavour of the food options, and the cheerful helpful staff and services. Mitsis Alila attracts many repeat customers, which is probably the best indication of a good resort experience.
Rooms
Rooms continue the white and off-white decor found in the resort's public area, with random-patterned marble tiled floors, and mostly white furnishings, including beds, end tables, coffee tables, dressers and desks. Beds have high, padded headboards with silver riveted margins. The silver rivets theme carries on to the margins of the couches, end tables and coffee tables. They provide a nice contrast to the white of the furnishings. Drapes are off-which with black hems, and some walls are designed with wide pastel vertical stripes. Bathrooms are marble clad with stand-in rain shower cabinets or bath tubs.
Mountain View
Mountain View rooms look out over inland Rhodes. Depending on the season, the hills are green (early-late spring, autumn) or various shades of dun (summer). Elevations are upwards of 300m at their highest, and the view is pleasantly varied, mostly un-built and natural, with several inland villas on the tops of some hills. If your room is high enough, you may be able to see clear across the island to the west, which is only 6km wide at this point, to the sea on the west coast.

In the Area
Nearby, Faliraki, just a couple km down the coast from Mitsis Alila, is a world famous resort. In previous decades it was a destination for wild party goers, with lots of alcohol and rather irresponsible public behavior. It has remade itself into a much more family friendly place. The night life is still there, only it has calmed down. Of special note is the Faliraki Water Park, the biggest in Europe. It offers rafting slides, a wave pool, the world's longest water slide, and an aqua gym. There is an amusement park featuring bungee jumping and a Ferris wheel.
There are a lot of nice beaches all along the east coast of Rhodes, and a lot of interesting rockscapes, coves, arches, caves, coves and the like.
Rhodes Old Town is one of the largest, best-preserved medieval cities in Europe. It is a fascinating mix of cultures, civilizations, and architectural traditions, of old fountains, narrow, stone-paved streets bordered by buildings with Gothic arches, charming little cafes on its many compact public squares, Byzantine-era churches, medieval mosques, and huge stone walls and gates. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The administrative and commercial center of the Dodecanese, Rhodes New Town is thoroughly modern. Much of New Town was built during the Italian era. It has older neo-classical buildings next to modern construction, reflecting Rhodes' cosmopolitan character.
The central Kyprou (Cyprus) Square is always busy. The seafront walk is very pleasant, and there are remarkably clean beaches. The Aquarium, featuring sea turtles and other rare Mediterranean species, is the only one of its kind in Greece.
There are dozens of bars, nightclubs, tavernas, and restaurants. The 15th century fort and lighthouse Agios Nikolas is at the end of the harbor mole enclosing Mandraki, which was the ancient harbor. There are 3 windmills on the breakwater. The 3 windmills are the only survivors of a line of 14 medieval windmills used to grind grain.
Above the city to the southwest is the old acropolis, containing columns from the Temple of Apollo. At a scenic 150 feet (45 m) above the city, the acropolis was an integral part of Ancient Rhodes. Surrounding the acropolis is beautiful Rodini Park, with magnificent trees, walkways, grottos, and shallow caves.
Elsewhere on Rhodes
The sea road to the west coast, which really faces northwest, takes one to Ialyssos, just 3 miles (5 km) away, and passes some of the sandiest beaches and richest districts on the island. Ialyssos has its own acropolis, and a temple dedicated to Athena dating from the 3rd century, AD. On the north coast of the island, beyond, just southeast of the village of Theologos is a wild animal preserve popularly known as the Valley of the Butterflies, where millions swarm in the elevated forest from late spring to early autumn. The Valley of the Butterflies is 17 miles (27 km) from Rhodes Town.
Ancient Kameiros, 19 miles (30 km) west of Rhodes Town, and one of the three major city-states in ancient times, was re-discovered in 1929. The city appears to have suffered sudden and catastrophic destruction, and thus is known as the Pompeii of Greece.
About halfway up the east, or Mediterranean side of Rhodes is Lindos, the third of the 3 ancient city-states of Rhodes, which is now the second favorite destination of the island, and the first for many who return to Rhodes year after year. Its acropolis is similar, geologically, to the Athens Acropolis: a steep up thrust of rock surrounded by dwellings, in this case the cubistic, Cycladic architecture of the Greek islands.
