Cap St Georges Hotel & Resort

About 15 minutes (16 kilometers) up the southwest coastline of Cyprus from the UNESCO World Heritage City of Paphos, Cap St. Georges Hotel and Resort is thirty acres of luxury and beauty. It is the consensus best 5-star hotel on Cyprus.

This part of the coastline is named after George Grivas, who landed on the then deserted beach with a shipment of weapons during the Cypriot War of Independence from British colonial rule. in the 1950’s.

Opened in 2022, the Cap St Georges was designed and built by award-winning international architects and builders Korantina Homes. Constructed of locally-sourced building materials such as cut limestone, mosaic materials and wood, the resort is designed to reflect the landscape of Cyprus.

This 202-room resort gets consistent 5-star reviews and is the largest seafront residential resort in Cyprus. It has 163 sea view rooms, 39 suites, 10 restaurants and bars, a nightclub, an ice cream café, a huge 2500 square-meter spa, 130 meters of sandy beachfront, 3 outdoor pools including a kid’s pool, 1 indoor pool, a boutique, an organic products store and a jewelry shop.

This extensive property commands sweeping views of the Mediterranean, and backs up to the Akamas National Park with its extensive hiking trails and natural wonders. Although Paphos is fifteen minutes away, it takes a bit longer to get there from Paphos International Airport- about 30 minutes.

The lobby features Calacatta marble floors, table tops and desk cladding. Calacatta marble is prized for its bold white color and grey and gold veining. The lobby is full of light pouring through its floor to ceiling windows. The lobby’s terrace has a wide-open vista of the Mediterranean and the resort’s grounds.

The resort is built cascading terrace-style, with the lobby and main building being its high point, descending to the beach. The overall horizontal, descending design reminds one a little of the hanging gardens of Babylon. The three infinity pools, just below the main building, are decorated with Marazzi Piedra tiles.

Below the pool area is the Agora Village Square, considered the social heart of the resort. There you’ll find restaurants, a bar, a sweet shop, an outdoor cinema, a boutique, and a jewelry store. The Agora Village Square also houses the resort’s spa, and its gym. There is even a barrel roof-style chapel on the premises. The hotel has its own ranch, where you can have horse rides along the seaside.

The west-facing beach is perfect for beautiful Mediterranean sunsets, and being part of a cove keeps the waves to a child-friendly minimum. The sand is soft and pebble-free, and there are some interesting limestone formations at both ends of the beach, as well as along the majority of the resort’s seafront.

Guests rave, among other things, about the helpful staff, the excellent quality of the food, the beautiful sunsets, and the spacious, well-appointed rooms. Many guests express a wish to return. Cap St Georges is one of the very few resorts which draws almost exclusively 5-star ratings from guests.  Historic Paphos is easily reached by local busses, which run at the time of this writing at 3x/hour.

Rooms

Rooms are, by and large comfortably large, with plenty of light. Room décor features contemporary design, earth tones throughout, tastefully modern wall art, and subtle, indirect lighting. Guests get a welcome bottle of Champagne, chocolates, and fresh fruits. Bathrooms have free standing bathtub, separate shower, and dual vanities, with Lalique toiletries. Lalique is known for its glass art in objects such as perfume bottles. Room amenities include accessibility features, internet, AC, bath amenities, closet, coffee and tea maker, full-length mirror, marble bathroom, mini bar, safe deposit box, soundproof windows, and more.

Cap Rooms

Cap Rooms come in 3 varieties: Cap Thalassa Room, Cap Superior Room, and Cap Deluxe Room.

The Cape Thalassa Room has a floor to ceiling window with sliding door giving on to the furnished balcony and affording a wonderful view of the grounds with the sea in the distance. The large bathroom has dual free-standing sinks and a free-standing bathtub. There is a king size bed, as well as a convertible bed-sofa.

The Cap Superior Room is on the second and third floors, giving guests a completely unobstructed, panoramic view of the sea. The freestanding bathtub is available for long, luxurious soaking after a busy day. King size bed and pullout sofa can comfortably sleep up to three guests.

The Cap Deluxe Room is slightly larger, again offering tremendous panoramic views of the sea, king size bed, and sofa bed.

Residence Rooms

There are 3 types of Residence Rooms, as described below.

The Residence Room, a little smaller than the Cap Rooms, has an extra wide full-length mirror,

an airy, spacious feel, and a natural flow from the balcony to the sleeping area to the marble-clad bathroom. There are two varieties. The Residence Room has the king size bed and sofa bed, and a balcony giving guests an unobstructed view of the azure waters of the sea.

The Residence Room With Private Pool has its own little infinity pool taking up about half the balcony. The balcony, a rectangular space bordered by a couple of 2-meter limestone walls offering perfect privacy, gets full sun the greater part of the day and is perfect for a morning plunge after some coffee first thing. The room itself faces seaward, and offers a wonderful view of the grounds, the sea, and the clear blue sky of the Med. This adults-only room offers everything one could want in beauty and privacy.

Residence Panorama Room. This room offers optimal views due to its higher elevation.

Suites

Suites - up to 3 guests

The Cap One Bedroom Suite is up on the fifth floor and offers wonderfully unobstructed sea views from its windows and balconies. It has a separate seating area and sofa beds in each room. 116m² (1,250 sq.ft)

The Residence One Bedroom Suite with Private Pool is a spacious, comfy accommodation with sun loungers and a private infinity pool on its furnished balcony. There is a separate seating area and two bathrooms. 120m² (1,300 sq. Ft.)

Suites - up to 6 guests

The Cap Family Suite offers a nice open floor plan with pleasant panoramas from its floor to ceiling window, and a balcony bordered by a low native limestone wall. It has 2 king size beds and two sofa beds. 114m² (1,226 sq.ft)

The Cap Two Bedroom Suite is only on the fifth floor, meaning wide, panoramic views of the sea and surroundings. This suite is the size of a home, and gives guests room to roam. Separate seating areas and to pull-out sofa beds complete the picture. 174m² (1870 sq. ft.)

The Residence Two Bedroom Suite with Private Pools has large, roomy furnished balconies and  great panoramic views. This largest suite has oversized bedrooms and separate seating areas. 179m² (1926 sq. ft.)

Akamas Presidential Villa Suite

The Akamas Presidential Villa Suite is a very large, very luxurious accommodation with a full kitchen. A hundred square meter (1,075 sq.ft) infinity pool, an incorporated Jacuzzi, a very large exterior veranda, and seven bedrooms complete the picture. This is the crème de la crème of Cap St Gerges’ offerings, giving guests an unparalleled vacation experience. 990 m²  (10,650 sq. ft.)

Food and Drink

Yeronisos is Cape St Georges’ place for breakfast. This elegant dining hall has massive, fluted columns fashioned out of white oak and designed like stylized tree trunks, and has Calacatta Gold marble cladding on its buffet station.

Restaurant overlooks the resort’s pool. Breakfast menu includes both Greek and international items.

The Kohili Restaurant emphasizes Cypriot and Greek cuisine, including a variety of Mediterranean-wide seafood items. There are a number of fine wine choices. Restaurant is decorated with a canopy of olive trees, and offers a wide vista of the St George coastline. Some menu items included grilled haloumi cheese, pan fried garlic prawns, Greek village salad, fried calamari, octopus, and lamb chops.

Sapori takes its name from the Italian word for “flavors.” Restaurant’s focus is Cypriot specialties. It’s a small venue with windows overlooking the resort’s gardens with a beautiful cut limestone back wall. It offers such dishes as rucola salad with shrimp, chicken liver pate, linguini crab, and sea bass with fennel cream truffle and mushrooms.

Bonsai gives guest a gastronomic tour of the Far East with on-site show cooking over a teppanyaki (hibachi) grill. Restaurant offers sushi, duck with vermicelli, spicy scallops, prawn tempura rolls, and crispy duck.

Sky7 is so named because of its prime location on the 7^th floor of the resort. It goes without saying that this offers diners an inspiring 360-degree view of the sea, and, at the right hour, unforgettably magnificent sunsets over the Mediterranean. Sky7 specializes in international fine dining.

Bars

The Chroma Lounge and Lobby Bar offers guests a 180-degree panorama of the sea from its terrace, which overlooks the swimming pool and grounds of the resort.

The Chroma Lounge and Bar has an elegant, dark grey Nero Marquina marble bar and a beautiful, massive Lasvit teardrop chandelier. and features a sky piano, known for its pristine acoustics, on its own circular balcony above the bar. Light food such as salads, sandwiches, and burgers can be had as well as a wide variety of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Thalassa Pool Bar is the place to quench one’s thirst after time on the sun lounger working on a tan or splashing around in the pool. Enjoy the brilliant sun of Cyprus, plan your itinerary over cocktails, beer, iced beverages, snacks and sandwiches as you soak in all that healthy vitamin D, make new friends, and get the best out of your holiday.

Kohili Restaurant Bar is close to Kafizis Beach and offers all you need to supplement your beach day with liquid refreshment and a large selection of dining options. Relax during the golden sunset hours as you nosh on such items as fried baby calamari, village salad, grilled bream, and lobster and crab ravioli.

Gelato, a café in the Agora Village section of the resort, makes life sweet with ice cream towers, crepes, cakes and various pastries.

Spa and Wellness

Cleopatra Spa is named after the famous queen of Egypt (who was in fact Greek, a descendant of Ptolemy, one of Alexander’s generals). The spa covers a sprawling 2,500 m² (more than half an acre) on the ground floor of the main building. The spa offers high-level treatments using top shelf products. The interior is paved with Verde Guatemala green marble, and features a large indoor pool, hydrotherapy whirlpool, cold plunge pools, thermal saunas, steam rooms, aromatherapy experience showers, 8 treatment rooms, 2 private VIP suites, and Rasoul mud treatment chambers. Whether one is looking for toning or just feeling better, a holistic approach is available combining various treatments with exercise, with an optimal time frame of between 3 and 6 days.

Bespoke spa treatments make use of world-class brands such as Valmont, Cinq Mondes, and Kypwell. The sauna provides a wonderfully relaxing revitalizing, deep pore-cleansing experience.

The exercise room offers a full range of equipment, from free weights to a variety of exercise machines.

Activities

Georges Ranch has horseback excursions along the seaside, with half hour to forty-five minute circuits on offer.

Georges Ranch also offers riding lessons for all levels. Private yacht excursions are also on offer, with half day and full day outings exploring the Akamas Peninsula and the Natura 2000 Akamas National Park. The coastline has a wide variety of rock formations, including sea caves. You can take a private fishing trip on a traditional Greek fishing caique, hosted by local fishermen, who will launch further out into the sea in search of underwater surprises and teach you the secrets of local fishing techniques.

Bicycle and buggy rental allow guests to explore the paths, dirt roads, and bike paths in the area of Akamas National Park.

Various agricultural activities include observing how various products are made, such as honey, traditional halloumi cheese, olive oil pressing, and carob syrup processing. In addition, one can take a wine tasting tour, or visit Perivoli Farm, which produces fresh fruit and vegetables.

Leisure activities include some of the best beaches in Cyprus, as well as all kinds of water sports, which include snorkeling, canoeing, paddle boat rentals, and motorized water sports. Cap St Georges has 3 outdoor pools, the Thalassa Olympic Pool, the Fun Pool, and the Happy Seal Kidz Pool providing multiple opportunities for fun in the sun.

Fun for Kids

In addition to the Happy Sealz Kidz pool, the Happy Seal Kidz Club offers all kinds of activities to keep kids occupied during their holiday. A trained staff supervises the youngsters from ages 3-12 and offers babysitting services as well. Recent kid’s titles are shown at the open air cinema.

The Gaming Lounge has a number of modern games played on state of the art equipment.

In the Area

Not far from the resort is the Grivas monument and museum. This is where Georgios Grivas landed in November, 1954 with the caïque Agios Georgios, loaded with weapons for the struggle for Cypriot independence from British rule. There one will find a statue of Grivas, while the museum houses the original caique.

Paphos is a UNESCO World Heritage site, one of about 900 such sites in the world. The criteria for such sites are those having “cultural, historical, scientific or other form of significance.” Some of those having such significance in Paphos include Old Paphos, now called Kouklia, on a hill east of the modern city, the traditional birthplace of Aphrodite, goddess of love. Remains of the ancient city and its sanctuary can be viewed. The Paphos Archeological Park includes the ruins of four large Roman-era villas with well-preserved mosaic floors.

The Paphos pedestrian boulevard on the seafront is famous for its beauty and makes for a pleasant walk in the cool of a summer evening. Paphos Segway Tours take you to all the famous sites in the city and environs, which has been likened to an open-air museum.

The Paphos Castle is a must see, as well as St. Paul’s Pillar, where Church tradition holds that the Apostle Paul was flogged 39 times by the Roman Proconsul of Cyprus, Sergius Paulus, after which he himself converted to Christianity after Elymas the sorcerer was struck blind after trying to discourage Sergius Paulus from the faith.

Paphos Zoo is an expansive nature area which houses all kinds of mammals, birds, and reptiles. Its exotic bird collection and venomous snake collection are some of the most varied in Europe.

Paphos is full of restaurants and night spots for those desiring a little nightlife. There are all kinds of tours, both on land and sea , available for sightseers wishing to have a broader view of the environs of this historical city.

Paphos Aphrodite Water Park provides hours of fun in the sun on its slides, tunnels and pools. An introductory course in Scuba Diving can also he had in the Discover Scuba Diving tour, during which octopuses and sea turtles can be encountered in the crystal clear waters of the Aegean.
