Avaton Luxury Beach Resort

Avaton Luxury Beach Resort is situated on a relatively undeveloped stretch of beautiful beach on Halkidiki’s Mt. Athos Peninsula, about 90 minutes from Thessaloniki, is a member of Relais & Chateaux, a global organization of independently-owned luxury hotels and restaurants numbering about 580.

Founded in 1954 in France, Relais & Chateaux’s  motto is "Caractère, Courtoisie, Calme, Charme et Cuisine" (Character, Courtesy, Calm, Charm and Cuisine).

Set amongst the rich greenery of Halkidiki’s Mt. Athos Peninsula, Avaton Luxury Hotel is fronted by the transparent, aquamarine waters of the Ierissos Gulf, a wide inlet of the northern Aegean. Mt. Athos Peninsula, most of which is claimed by Mt. Athos, the chain of monasteries built on the spine of the lower three quarters of the peninsula, is the least touristically-developed portion of Halkidiki’s three arms, and, considering the status of most of the peninsula as a set-aside place for holiness and contemplation in perpetuity, will always be underdeveloped.

This guarantees a quiet, peaceful vacation venue, which is what most of desire in a vacation, thus making the resort an ideal destination. A major international airport is a little more than an hour away, making it convenient for that vast majority of guests coming by air.

Avaton Luxury Hotel offers 36 luxury suites, villas, and rooms. Most offer private pools set amongst the bright green of abundant plant life, in sharp contrast to the often much more arid environment you’ll find at most other Greek resorts.

The entire complex is situated on a rise of land overlooking the beach and the sea, and the downgrade is landscaped to provide a grassy terrace which has umbrellas and sunbeds- sort of a beach with grass instead of sand.

Guests especially like the sense of privacy the location affords, the personalized care of the staff, which includes a tour of the premises, the wide beach and the clear waters of the sea, and the excellent food choices and quality.

Rooms

Room décor features various shades and versions of white and cream, with muted, understated primary colors and green on some pillowcases top sheets and furniture upholstery. The effect is to convey a sense of cleanliness and comfort.

Amenities include luxury items in the bath, highest quality linens, slippers, bathrobes, hair dryer, sun beds, beach towels, sea view for all rooms and suites, in-room bar, electronic safe, tea/coffee maker, with various services available such as private butler and in-room spa treatments and private dining for an extra charge.

Note: there is no common pool on the resort. Some rooms have pools, and some don’t depending on the category. This shouldn’t be a problem since you’ll be a literally just a couple minutes from one of the best beaches in Halkidiki.

Deluxe Ro­­om with Sea View

The Deluxe Room with a Sea View has a glass-enclosed shower unit, a semi-open closet, and a furnished balcony. No pool.

Deluxe Room with Private Pool

Room has a sea view and its own small pool. It can be combined with a one bedroom suite with sea view to make a two bedroom unit.

One Bedroom Suite with Sea View

This two-level suite has a mini bar, coffee maker, furnished balcony, and a sweeping, panoramic sea view. The upper level has a master bedroom with king size bed, as well as a sitting area in the corner with picture windows looking out to the sea. There is also an en-suite bathroom with shower on the upper level. Living room on the lower level has a double sofa bed. The suite can be connected with a Deluxe Room with Sea View which will sleep an additional 2 guests.

Junior Suite with Private Pool

Suite has a king size bed, a lounge with sofa bed, and its own private splash pool. The suite can be connected with a Deluxe Room with Private Pool which will sleep an additional 2 guests.

Two Bedroom Suite with Sea View

This large suite is spread out on two floors. The first floor has a bedroom, two single beds, bathroom  and shower, a living room, dining table, kitchen, mini bar, and furnished balcony providing a nice sea view. The second floor features a master bedroom, double bed, sitting corner with large windows giving you a pleasant, panoramic view of the sea, and en-suite bathroom and shower.

Two Bedroom Suite with Private Pool

Suite is all on one, ground level. It includes a living room, dining table, a kitchen area, a mini bar, two bedrooms- one with a double bed and the other with two single beds, and a bathroom and shower. Outside there is a fully furnished terrace and sun beds, and a nice splash pool.

Two Bedroom Residence with Private Pool

This large residence is spread out over 3 levels and covers a total of 120m² (1,300 sq. Ft.). The ground level has a living room with corner sofa, a dining table, a kitchen, and a mini bar. Outside, there is a nice, furnished terrace, a private pool with a built-in sunbed. The second level has a bedroom with two single beds (or two double beds), a walk-in closet, bathroom with shower, and a furnished terrace looking out to the sea. The top level has the master bedroom with double bed, a lounge area with a great view of the sea, a walk-in closet, and a bathroom with shower.

Presidential Villa with Private Pool & Garden

The Presidential Villa is similar in layout to the Two Bedroom Residence with Private Pool: It has a 3-level configuration as follows: the first level has a living room, with corner sofa, a dining table, an open plan kitchen, and a mini bar. Outdoor area has a furnished terrace, and a small private pool with built-in sunbeds.

The second level has a bedroom with 2 single beds, or 2 doubles, bathroom, shower, and furnished balcony with sea vies.

The third level has the master bedroom, double bed, lounge area near the windows to take advantage of the sea view, walk-in closet, and bathroom with shower.

Food and Drink

Avaton Luxury Hotel & Villas has two restaurants and one bar for your dining and drinking pleasure. The restaurants are top quality, award-winning establishments which have won a listing in the Michelin Guide. 

The resort’s executive chef, Panos Papadopoulos, has an excellent feel for food, and used to help his grandmother prepare the Sunday family meal as a child and has extensive experience in farm-to-table meal preparation. Customers rave about his take on traditional Greek gastronomical creations.

The foundation for his meals are organic herbs from the resort’s own garden, fresh fish from the Athos peninsula, seasonal vegetables from local producers, renowned extra virgin olive oil from Halkidiki, a selection of traditional cheeses from a nearby award-winning producer, and high grade meats from a farm specializes in prime eating stock.

The Atelier Restaurant is a unique open-air venue on a level place in the grassy downgrade which slopes toward the beach. Its “Taste of Greece” variety meal includes, among other creations, Athenian salad, beet rose, sea bass nose to tail, mastic kantaifi and sikomaida, melomakarona and much more. Other offerings include vegetarian moussakas and gemista, as well as a selection of northern Greece’s finest wines.

The Origin Restaurant says that “it is all about the origin of life.” Its menu, “a tribute to our local cuisine,” is inspired by the traditional Greek table,  and is geared to remind us of our origins in the land. Some menu items include a seafood platter called “treasures of the sea,” pasta and riscotto, and mussels, a specialty of the head chef.

The Champagne Bar has relaxing, live lounge music to accompany your fruit and herb-infused signature cocktails and a wide variety of other mixed drinks, spirits, beers and soft drinks.

In addition, a cooking master class is offered to guests who wish to up their culinary game, showing you step by step how to prepare some of the resort’s signature dishes, and hosted by the head chef.

Spa and Wellness

A variety of wellness services are available at Avaton Resort, and are offered in your luxury rooms and villas, as well as the Spas treatment rooms. Their overall wellness philosophy is termed “the art of living well,” and features regimens by the Euphoria Wellness and Body Treatments. Treatments include Face Hydrating treatment, Youth Anti-Age treatment, Back and Shoulder Recovery, Slimming Massage, and Hot and Cold Stones Massage, amongst many others.

Beauty & Wellness cabanas use natural products by Sothys Paris. In the meantime,  kid can enjoy  an eco-educational activity at Avaton Kids Club.

Fitness and exercise include yoga sessions, and exercise featuring the spa’s personal fitness coach.

In the Area

Boat tours of Mt. Athos are on offer, circumnavigating the Holy Mountain, with a clear view of many of its monasteries. An excellent day trip is the 90-minute trip to Thessaloniki, considered the cultural capital of Greece. Thessaloniki is a beautiful city located on the slopes of a natural amphitheater formed by Mt. Hortiatis and its foothills, on the shore of the Aegean Sea's Gulf of Thermi.

A lively, cosmopolitan city with a rich, complex history of more than 2300 years, Thessaloniki has broad shopping avenues coexisting with narrow back streets, old houses next to high-rise buildings, and historic sites woven into the urban fabric.

At the seaside promenade (Nea Paralia) you can not only just sit at one of many coffee shop overlooking the water, but also stroll, ride in a horse-drawn carriage, rent a bike, or cruise along the seafront on a floating cafe-ship.

There are 15 structures designated, collectively, as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stitching together the features of the “world’s best open-air Byzantine museum.”
