A packed program of activities for kids is available, as well as a playground and pool with all kinds of pool playground equipment such as slides, stairs, platforms, bridges and much more. The beach is wide, with crystal clear waters and sand the colour of brown sugar, and there is a full complement of water sports available.
With spacious rooms, four beautiful restaurants, four atmospheric bars, and a first class spa and fitness center, Alexander Beach has all the makings of an unforgettable family holiday venue.
Rooms
Accommodations at Alexander Beach range from the cozy 23m2 (250 sq. ft) Comfort Room to the 77m² (830 sq. ft.) Dream Villa, which comes with a 55 m² infinity private pool. The rooms, suites and villas are superbly equipped with every amenity to ensure a wonderful holiday experience, including individually adjusted AC, furnished balcony or terrace, facilities for hot drinks, king size or twin beds with pillow menu, fridge, safe box, satellite TV and radio, telephone, hairdryer body wash and shampoo, marble bathroom with tub or shower cabinet, and WiFi, among others.
Room décor is understated luxury, with beige and pastel color schemes, easy to clean tile floors, simple and elegant furniture, either light beige or wood-grain brown tile, and gold gilt inlay on the crème-colored bureaus, bed stands, and headboards, giving the space an elegantly royal feel.
Comfort Rooms
Comfort Rooms come in three categories: Garden View, Sea View, and Beach Front. The majority of these rooms can be found in the Cretan-style terrace buildings, which are two storeys and mimic the local architechture. Rooms either overlook the beautiful lawns and ornamental plants of the garden, or give you a nice panorama of the sea, or are situated and look out onto the wide, sandy beach and the pools.
Luxury Superior Rooms
Luxury Superior Rooms are a bit larger than the comfort rooms, and come in two View: Garden View and Beach Front. These rooms have recently undergone a complete renovation. They have all the usual amenities, plus a small fridge. The additional space allows a sitting area with sofa, armchair, and coffee table to be configured into the floor plan.
Family Open Plan Garden View
These airy, spacious rooms can be found at ground level or the second level in the central courtyard area of the complex. The rooms open up to a small private terrace which then leads to the beautifully designed, stone-paved courtyard featuring grapevine trellises, raised planters, curved-back benches, wisteria, camellia and other semi-tropical shrubs, painstakingly pruned olive trees, and stone arches, all bordered by the whitewashed look of the surrounding buildings. Access to the kids’ wading pool is convenient. Exterior walls are all glass, allowing abundant light into the rooms.
Premium Family 2 Rooms
The Premium Family 2 Rooms come with two view options: Garden View and Sea View. The Garden View is very similar to the Family Open Plan Garden View; they open up to either a balcony overlooking the gardens or a small private terrace leading directly onto the gardens, which have an unforgettable, orderly, subtropical beauty. The Sea View provides direct visual access (and physical access for ground floor rooms) to the crystal clear waters of the Med. The configuration is a separate bedroom and living room, with a wide opening in the intervening wall between the two spaces. The living room includes sofa beds. Premium Family Rooms vary in size from 35m2 (375 sq. ft.) to 45m2 (485 sq. ft.).
Junior Suite Beach Front with own Garden
This is a beautifully appointed suite right on the beach front suitable for 4. It’s a short walk from the patio through the palms of your garden to the beach. These suites are in the front rank of the resort’s bungalow buildings. The layout of the suite is a tastefully furnished, nicely-appointed master bedroom with a king-size bed, and a cozy living room with a sofa bed, writing desk, and coffee table. There are two marble-clad bathrooms, and floor to ceiling sliding door which fills the suite with light all day long. Outside, the terrace of furnished with sun loungers and a sitting area with table. A short stone-paved walkway leads directly to the beach.
Premium Suite 2 Room Garden View, Beach Front View
Both versions of the Premium Suite (Garden View and Beach Front View) are in the grouping of two-storey terrace houses whose architecture is modeled after traditional Cretan homes. They are located in the courtyard area. Garden View includes the courtyard with its planters, tropical shrubs, manicured grass, palm trees, and comfortable park benches. Beach Front View gives you as direct an access to the soft sand and sparkling water as you can have. Suites are configured in two rooms with an open doorway between them. The bedroom has a king size bed, and the living room has sofa beds, coffee table, upholstered armchairs, and writing desk.

Food and Drink
Alexander Beach Malia offers 3 restaurants, a restaurant/bar, 3 bars, and a lounge, providing lots of dining and hanging out options.
Alexandros is the resort’s main restaurant. Situated by the sea, a few meters above the water line, this indoor/outdoor venue offers customers a wonderful view of the sea from its terrace, which is semi-enclosed with a low glass wall to keep the stiff sea breeze to a minimum. Alexandros serves buffet-style breakfast, lunch and dinner. The breakfast has a distinct Greek/Cretan flavor, and has earned the restaurant the Hellenic Breakfast Award certification.
The Taverna & Ouzerie Meltemi has all the hallmarks of a local Cretan dining spot: a dressed stone building topped by barrel tiles and abundant, hot pink bougainvillea, lots of exposed timber, and the classic Greek ladder back, woven straw bottom chairs around square, brightly painted tables topped by checked tablecloths. The taverna is off-site, on the busy beach road, and as such provides opportunities to meet or observe customers who aren’t staying at the resort. Outdoor seating is available in the back yard, under the lemon trees. The taverna offers a wide range of Greek food as well as traditional mezes, the Greek appetizers served with a few ounces of ouzo.
The Ristorante Olivia is open for a la carte style breakfast, lunch and dinner every day except Sundays. Beautifully sited at the resort’s poolside all fresco dining is available under the lattice-covered patio, or inside for greater comfort during inclement weather. Specialties include classic handmade pizza and spaghetti, along with Italian snacks, desserts such as gelato, and a wide variety of cold drinks.
The Beach Restaurant & Bar Mediterraneo is, as the name implies, on the beach. It’s the place to go for snacks at tea time, or a light Greek or International-style lunch. You can relax with an aperitif in the evening and take in the breathtaking sunsets the Med is famous for. The restaurant prides itself on its use of locally-sourced ingredients.
Bars
The Lobby Bar Dionysos is a classy place with lacquered paving stone floors, a great patio with upholstered love seats and chairs, and a great view of the sea from its veranda. It’s the perfect place to unwind after a day of fun in the sun.
The Pool Bar Poseidon offers great view, tasty snacks, and night time entertainment. It’s a great place for drinks both hot and cold, and tasty snacks. An added bonus is the entertainment program, which nightly offers live music, games, shows, and other forms of entertainment. It’s a great place and a great way to end another perfect day at Alexander Beach.
The Cocktail Bar Apollo features a poolside gazebo situated between the two free form pools and an opportunity to hydrate yourself as you tan and take occasional cooling dips in the pools as you enjoy the view of the sea, the beach, and the resort’s visitors enjoying their day in the sun.
The Alexander Lounge “Phillipos” is on the busy beach road, a little off-site, and wonderfully local in its use of stone and beams, with heavy, mullioned doors and windows. The white checkered interior floor tiles add to the rustic charm of the lounge, as well as the two pool tables and wooden bar stools. A wide screen TV in one corner featuring sporting events completes the picture, making for the perfect place to relax and imbibe during the heat of the day.
Spa and Wellness
The Aegeon Spa comprises over 1,000 m2 (10,750 sq. ft.) of facilities for the rejuvenation of your body and mind, as well as a huge fitness room with free weights and a wide variety of exercise machines.
The spa, the resort’s main building, offers a world-class Mediterranean pampering experience. There is an indoor heated pool, whirlpool treatments, a Finnish sauna, a steam bath, an Oriental Hamam, vitamin drinks, and a full menu of spa treatments extending from the scalp to the bottoms of your feet. There’s something for everyone at the Aegeon Spa, and after a treatment regimen you’ll feel and appear years younger, with healthy, glowing, elastic skin tone, and a body tightened for the beach by the use of weights and machines in the fitness room.
The Fitness Center features Techno GYM equipment for whatever your fitness focus is, from fitness bikes to power equipment to cross trainers, treadmills, and free weights. A personal trainer is on site to help you to develop just the exercise program you need to tone and firm up parts of your body that need it the most.
Activities
In addition to the fitness center, a wide variety of activities are available at Alexander Beach. Water sports, most of which include a small charge, include banana canoes, parasailing, pedalos, and beach volleyball, among others. Free sports activities include the 6 swimming pools, 2 tennis courts, table tennis, darts, gymnastics, a games room, yoga, Pilates, and boccia, and for a small charge, billiards.
In addition, a daily animation show is put on for younger guests, and, in the evenings, there are various shows, Greek evenings, barbecues, and disco nights, amongst other activities.
In the Area
There are all kinds of things to do and places to go to in this part of Crete. Here are just a few day trip ideas:
Agios Nikolaos is about 45 minutes to the east and south. It’s a beautiful, historic, scenic city with a wonderfully picturesque seafront, a cosmopolitan atmosphere, and an incredibly lively nightlife. A little further to the east is Spinalonga Island, the former last leper colony in Greece, made famous by Victoria Hislop in her novel The Island, which became a Greek TV miniseries. Day trips to both places can be arranged for around €45.
Ancient Knossos, capital of the ancient Minoan civilization and home of the Minotaur, is about a half hour to the west. Day trips to Knossos and the nearby Cave of Zeus can also be had for reasonable prices if you don’t want to take local busses, which are pretty convenient in any case. A wider day trip would include the Zeus Cave and some of the traditional villages in the area as well as an olive oil factory.
Favorite water parks in the area of the resort include Aeolos Beach Park and Water Sports, just a couple km away on the Malia beachfront, and Meropi Aqua, also near the Malia beachfront, and noted for its kid-friendly features.
A word to the wise about Malia: it’s famous as one of the greatest party destinations for the under 30 set. So if crowds of drunk kids roaming the streets after midnight is not your thing, you’ve been warned. If it is, knock yourself out.
