Hideaway vacation in the Minoan land

in the place where the most ancient civilization of Europe flourished 3900 years ago

It’s difficult to imagine how this corner of Greece looked in ancient times, but one thing is for sure, today the atmosphere here is no less fascinating. Surrounded by wild cliffs, with caves and an impressive gorge, among the green plain there is a small resort village. An excellent 650 m. long beach, awarded with European Blue Flag, perfectly complements the beauty of this place.

It’s the place where 3900 years ago a big Minoan city was located. More than 30 years of archaeological excavation in an area of 25,000 square meters. revealed a large number of artifacts that are stored today in the Archaeological Museums of Heraklion, Sitia and Agios Nikolaos. Having visited the archaeological zone of Kato Zakros, you can try to imagine the former grandeur of this place.

It’s the place where Terra Minoika Villas is located today. On a hill, 40 meters above sea level, with panoramic views on the gulf and all the attractions. A hymn to traditional Greek architecture - buildings built entirely of local stone and the entire surrounding area will pleasantly surprise and inspire you with their beauty. But the main highlight of this place is its owners Stella and Ilias, real lovers of their craft and their land, daily embodying what the Greeks call “philoxenia” (“hospitality”).

Things to do

The main purpose of your holidays is, of course, body and soul relaxation, but ... If laying on the beach, exploring the underwater world, fishing, and generally relaxing is not your main priorities, and you want some natural activity — then don’t forget to take your hiking shoes before going here!

The owners of villas, Stella and Ilias love trekking and have visited all the mountain trails of Greece, as well as the Alps, the Himalayas and the Kilimanjaro. They will be happy to help you with all the necessary information needed to explore the surrounding mountains and gorge. At the exit from the Gorge of the Dead (that's what it is called) there is even a special climbing area, with trails of varying difficulty, from easy one to the most demanding. The whole region belongs to the Sitia Geopark, which is under the auspices of UNESCO and is part of the European network Natura 2000.

Another surprise awaits everyone who wants to try themselves in Greek or Cretan dance. Stella is a teacher with a specialization in traditional dances and can help you to learn all the basic movements. The Greek evenings held in the courtyard of Terra Minoika, with Cretan food, “raki”, wine, and music, will help you to strengthen your newly acquired knowledge.

If you are looking for a place where you can escape from civilization, then you will definitely not be mistaken when you come here. Pure nature, the aroma of the Cretan land with its traditions, simplicity and local products will be remembered for your whole life.

For the owners of Terra Minoika, each guest is not just a tourist or a client, but a true friend who honored them with his choice, and they always return it to him with their respect and hospitality!
