Portes Lithos Luxury Resort

Situated 2.5 km north of the famous ancient canal of Potidea, and just 40 minutes from Thessaloniki’s Macedonia International Airport, Portes Lithos Luxury Resort has everything you need for an affordable, luxury getaway. As an added bonus a protected wetland, home to numerous migratory wading bird species, is just a ten-minute walk away.

Portes Lithos boasts 130 luxuriously appointed rooms and suites in a topographically rare and idyllic setting. The resort is on the thinnest part of the upper neck of Halkidiki’s Kassandra Peninsula, westernmost of the three narrow fingers of Halkidiki which extend into the northern Aegean. At the point of the resort, the peninsula is only about a kilometer wide. Porto Lithos is on the western shore, giving guests terrific sunset panoramas and priceless views of Mt. Olympus, whilst on the eastern shore is the 7-acre Agios Mamas Wetland whose migratory species are protected by various international conventions.

The resort prides itself on the use of abundant locally-sourced natural materials in construction such as wood and stone. Its 250-meter beach is of soft sand the colour of brown sugar, and the buildings are sited on the property to provide the best possible views to as many rooms as possible. Three free-form, curving pools lend an lagoon-like air to the resort. Rooms are spacious and light-filled, with most rooms providing a view of the sea.

Should guests get a hankering for the fun of big city life, Portes Lithos is less than an hour away from Greece’s second city, Thessaloniki, whose nicknames include “The Cultural Capital of Greece, (noted for its book fairs, international trade fair, and its film festival)” and “The World’s Biggest Open-Air Byzantine Museum (due to the numerous surviving Byzantine-era structures).” Thessaloniki also has a vibrant night life.

Rooms

There are four categories of rooms in all; Superior Double,  Junior Suites, Loft Suites, and Deluxe Suites. 90 of the 130 rooms and suites belong to the Superior Double category. Due to the configuration of the buildings on the resort property, most rooms have at least some view of the sea.

Room amenities include AC, bathrobe and slippers, closet, full-length mirror, guest laundry, high speed internet, 42” smart TV with satellite, sofa bed, soundproof windows, tea kettle, USB plug, private balcony or terrace, and beach towels.

Superior Double Rooms

All Superior Double Rooms are 30m², and sleep up to 3 guests, max. 2 adults.

Superior Double Side Sea View

These rooms have either a queen-sized or twin bed, with a sofa bed next to it. Room includes bathroom with separate WC and rain shower cabinet. View ranges up the coast or down it, depending on room location, with a nice view of the sea as well.

Superior Double Sea Front

Affording an unobstructed view of the coastline, the Superior Double Seafront rooms are an ideal spot to sip a cocktail on the veranda in the cool of the evening and watch the sun set behind Mt. Olympus, 70km away across the northern Aegean.

Superior Double Sharing Pool

These rooms are all on the ground floor, and all of them come with a double bed. They’re off the side wings of the complex, and the terrace for these rooms feeds directly onto one of two shared pools. 

Loft Suites

Designed for families, the Loft Suites are on two floors connected by a floating staircase. All Loft Suites sleep up to 4 guests, max. 3 adults.

Loft Suite Side Sea View (12 suites)

The lower level contains a living room area with corner sofa, full-sized WC with rain shower cabinet, and furnished terrace. The upper level is primarily a bedroom with a queen bed, bathroom with separate shower and WC. A low glass wall separates the upper level and an open space which looks down on the lower level. Beyond the low glass wall are large windows looking out onto the sea, and the coastline.

Loft Suite Sea Front (11 suites)

These are the same as the Loft Suites Side Sea View with two important differences: 1) The Loft Suites Side Sea View are a little smaller 42m² vs 48m², and 2) beyond the low glass wall on the upper story are large windows looking directly out onto the sea. Which means you can lie in bed and watch the sun descend behind Mt. Olympus. Not bad.

Food and Drink

Porto Lithos offers 2 restaurants and 2 bars for dining and drinking pleasure.

Alyki Restaurant of Portes Lithos

The Alyki serves buffet-style breakfast (American style), lunch and dinner. It’s foundational menus are Mediterranean and International, but there are also internationally targeted and themed nights. Seating is in comfortable upholstered booths with tables and regular anatomically-designed wooden chairs.

The Skinos is for light meals, snacks, salads and seasonal fruits, among others. This sea air-washed open-air venue is dependent on the weather.

Pancratium Lobby Bar

The Pancratium Lobby Bar is a sun-washed indoor-outdoor venue with couches on the margins. It’s the place guests go for a whole variety of liquid refreshment in the nerve center of the resort where there is constant, interesting coming and going.

Drinking pleasure at Portes Lithos

The Dioni Pool Bar is at the side of the main pool and is the place for anything liquid, either alcoholic or non. This includes cocktails, beers and wines, smoothies and fresh juices.
